I am a web developer and have been working with the same hosting company for several years now. A few weeks ago I started to get involved with FreeNAS where I share files to my entire local network and I see that files can be shared even outside my local network under different network protocols which makes me think that I could host my web pages myself. However I don't know if this would work and if so, how could I link my domain name to my local server (NAS)?
I hope you can help me with my question. Excellent afternoon.
yes you could use it but you should have some things clear:
1) If the ip is dynamic you could solve it with "NO-IP".
2) You should know your download and upload speed, and compare where you are now to confirm that you do not saturate the bandwidth of your Internet and your website crashes.
3) You should see if your modem ports are open to allow traffic.
Once you have these 3 things resolved, you could think about hosting the website yourself.
Then you can see the issue of electricity costs, what to do if you are attacked with DDoS, etc.
I hope you find the answer useful. Greetings.
