How does i -=- 1 work?

Hello I have seen some memes about what i -=- 1; is the same as i++; I checked and if so. But why. What is the logic of that instruction? Greetings.enter image description here

    Let's rebuild your operation:

    i-=-1;

    without spaces it already looks different... now let's adjust the spaces according to the language tokens (or at least most of them)

    i -= -1;

    and what do we have left? this would translate to the following:

    i = i - (-1);

    which is the same as:

    i = i + 1;

    which is the same as:

    i += 1;

    equivalent to:

    i++;
